Composite bonding for gaps between teeth
Composite bonding closes a small gap between the front teeth by building out the sides of the teeth beside it. One visit, no braces. In Ireland it typically costs €350 to €700 for the two front teeth.

The dentist matches the shade, lightly roughens the sides of the two teeth and adds composite in thin layers until they meet, with a natural contact point between them. Each layer is set with a light, then the teeth are shaped and polished. The aim is two teeth that look a normal width, not two wide teeth.
Which gaps suit bonding
- A small gap between the two front teeth. The classic case, usually done in one appointment.
- Small gaps either side. Spread across four or six teeth so no tooth gets too wide.
- Dark triangles at the gum line where gums have shrunk back, once the gums are healthy and stable.
When something else comes first
- A wide gap. Braces or aligners close it properly; bonding can tidy the shape after.
- Gum disease or a loose tooth. Treat the cause first, or the gap keeps growing.
- A missing tooth. That's a bridge or an implant, not bonding.
What it costs
Per tooth, building out the sides of a tooth typically costs €175 to €350 in Ireland. Two teeth for a centre gap: €350 to €700. Small gaps across the top six: €1,050 to €2,100. Studies of gaps closed directly with composite report most restorations still in place after several years, with small chips the usual repair.

Questions
Questions about gaps
Can composite bonding close a gap between front teeth?
Yes, if the gap is small. The dentist adds composite to the sides of the two teeth so they meet in the middle. It's done in one visit, with no braces and usually no drilling.
How much does it cost to close a gap with bonding in Ireland?
Typically €350 to €700 for the two front teeth, at €175 to €350 a tooth. Several small gaps across the smile cost more, because more teeth are built out.
How big a gap can bonding close?
Small gaps are the ideal case. Close a wide gap with composite alone and the teeth end up looking too wide. Then braces or aligners first, or bonding on more teeth to spread the width, is the better plan. A dentist measures it at the consultation.
Will the gap come back?
The composite doesn't move, but your teeth can. If the gap came from gum disease, a tongue habit or teeth drifting, that has to be sorted first or a new gap can open beside the bonding.
