Composite veneers in Ireland

A composite veneer is composite bonding over the whole front of the tooth. It changes the shade and shape in one visit, with little or no drilling. In Ireland it typically costs €250 to €350 a tooth, against €700 to €900 for porcelain.

Composite suits most people who want a brighter, more even smile without the cost or the drilling of porcelain. Porcelain holds its shine and colour for longer, which matters more if you drink a lot of tea, coffee or red wine, or smoke. The full comparison is on bonding vs porcelain veneers.

Who they suit

  • Teeth that are a different shade from their neighbours, or patchy.
  • Teeth that are small, short or an odd shape.
  • Chips, gaps and worn edges you want sorted at the same time as the colour.

They don't suit heavy grinding without a night guard, untreated gum disease or decay, or teeth that need moving. A dentist checks all of that at the consultation.

Whiten first if you want whiter teeth

Composite keeps the shade it's made in. Whiten your own teeth first (€295 to €390 for a dentist's take-home kit), wait about two weeks, then have the veneers matched to the new shade.

Questions

Composite veneer questions

How much are composite veneers in Ireland?

Typically €250 to €350 a tooth, so €1,500 to €2,100 for six. Porcelain veneers are typically €700 to €900 a tooth.

Are composite veneers the same as composite bonding?

Yes. A composite veneer is composite bonding that covers the whole front of the tooth, rather than just an edge or a gap. Practices use both names.

How long do composite veneers last?

Expect a polish or a small repair within about 4 to 7 years, and a redo at some point. Porcelain lasts longer but costs two to three times as much.

Do composite veneers ruin your teeth?

No. Little or no enamel is removed: the surface is roughened so the composite grips. That's why they can usually be polished off or replaced later.
